Glow In The Dark Club

for glow in the dark club we ordered tons of glow in the dark bracelets and necklaces, enough so that every kid could have one of each. to set up we put up black trash bags on the window of the room to completely black it out, then we cut open several of the necklaces and poured the contents on the wall so that the room was glowing with the contents of the necklace dripping down the walls.
we started the night with a ring toss using the bracelets and some two liter bottles. we had two kids come up and gave them each five rings, the person to get the most on their bottle from behind a certain point won.
then we played the game where you have several circles (made from connecting glow sticks together) and kids have to have at least one foot inside them when the music stops (while the music is playing they must be dancing around or they are out....and to prevent kids from hovering around a ring we would wait until we stopped the music to throw them out) kids who do not get inside a ring are out. we would remove one ring each time until eventually there are only one or two kids left.
then we played steal the bacon and used objects that we had poured glow stuff on as the objects they were stealing (but i just learned that this game is banned in yl)
the best part about the night was the random techno dance parties were we would randomly interrupt whatever game we were playing and would turn up some techno music as loud as it could go and had everyone dance. it was pretty great.

Post-It Note Club

when kids came into club we gave them all a pad of post-its and a pen and had them write notes and draw pictures on them and stick them on their friends

the first game that we did was to have every kid put a strip of duct tape around their ankle facing outwards. then we gave every kid three post-its. the goal was to get a post-it stuck on to some one else's tape with out having someone get one on yours. if you got a post-it stuck to you then you were out. we went until we had a winner.

for the next game we divided the kids up by boys and girls, we had two hoops hanging from the wall and had the teams make paper air planes and see which team could get the most in the hoops in a set time (like a minute or so)

for the last game we had a captain from each team come up with four of their friends. the teams were given several pads of post-its and the goal was to see which team could cover more of their captain (we told kids no post-its on fig leaf parts).

Duct Tape Club

we had duct tape man come out to indroduce these games, he's a crazy guy in an all duct tape costume who fixes problems and such using duct tape (i'm sure if you search around on the internet under young life walk-ons or duct tape man you'd probably find it)

first we had four different kids duct taped to the wall by teams and saw who would stay up the longest.

then we had two kids volunteer (i reccomend guys with really short hair so that hair doesnt get stuck) and we put nylons over their heads and then duct tape facing outwards over the whole thing (but leaving room for them to breathe). we then dumped out a box of spoons on the ground and saw who could pick up the most by rolling around and such (the best part was when the guys got stuck to each other)

Night At The Raceway

the first game we played was to have kids come in and decorate burritos and have a burrito race
Divide into small groups of 5 to 7 people. Each group is given supplies to make a burrito racer… frozen burrito, 4 wood screws for axles, 4 washers for wheels, toothpicks, raisins, celery, carrot, etc. Be creative with the items to decorate the racer. For the race, get 2 12 ft. plastic rain gutters (these double for ice cream troughs later in the year). Lift both rain gutters to the same height and let the cars go. The burrito racers tend to fall a part but that’s half the fun. (those words were stolen from a website that i would credit if i could remember what it was)

then we had a kind of white trash pit crew character come out and introduce the "main event" a chair race. we had set up a race track through out our building with duct tape (we did this before club) complete with obsticles and such. we divided kids into three equal teams and then brough in our wheely chairs complete with crazy outfits. the way that it worked was that the person sitting in the chair had to have the costume on and the person pushing the chair was blindfolded, they were pushed around the loop track that we set up and then before the next group on the team could go they had to have the costume and blindfold on. it ended when all of the groups on each team had done a loop. it was pretty chaotic but very entertaining to watch.

lastly we had a little race against the clock. we had two kids come up and gave them like 30 seconds (or maybe a minute) so see how high they could get a stack of oreos using only their mouths.

here is a video from the last three clubs i talked about (we did them all in sept of 2007).

Club #2

yup, this is what it sounds like, we did this as our second club of the year. a little gross but hey, its youth ministry right?

we had kids enter and go sit around four different plates we had placed on the floor. once they were divided into four teams we gave them a couple bags of tootsie pops and told them to make their best poop sculpture.

then we picked two volunteers to "bob for turds." we used a big clear bucket that we filled part way with mountain dew and then dropped in baby ruth bars. we had kids come up and see who could get the most out of the bucket with their mouths in a set amount of time.

then we did the skit where you pick three volunteers and have them leave the room. you place a chair in the front and tell the rest of the kids that the kids that left are going to come in and show you how they go to the bathroom. you tell the kids outside of the room that they need to act out three different seneros by sitting in the chair in the front, they can use noises but not words and must stay in the chair. tell one kid that they just won the lotto. another that they are being attacked by a bear. and the last one that they are on the craziest roller coaster of their life. have the kids come in one by one and act them out. its pretty dang funny.

then we showed this fabulous you tube clip

then we read the book everybody poops (we had the different pages on a powerpoint so that kids could follow along)
and then the in the talk we talked about the "crap" in our lives

Messy Games

ok so we did this inside of an empty room. i spent the entire day tarping down the room with painters tarps and duct tape.

the first game we played was to shoot q-tips dipped in food coloring at a leader wearing a target on his shirt (we used a white shirt and drew a target on it and put in points such as 1/3, 2.467, 5-1...etc.), kids were divided up into two teams (each team given a different bowl of food colored water), each kid was given five q-tips and a straw. after all the q-tips were shot points were added accordingly (although it really didnt matter).

the next game we played was to select three girls and three guys, the girls then gave the guys new hair styles via shaving cream.

after that we played a game where the kids selected a partner and it was their job to feed their partner a jar of baby food but they had to do that laying down head to head, feet pointing in opposite directions.

then we played a game of twister, this was by far the messiest part of all. first i made a board using shaving cream to outline it. then used blue food coloring in cool whip for the blue, pasta sauce for the red, jam and corn for the yellow, and peas for the green. i then wrote twister with ketchup on the bottom.

set up is definately a lot on this one so we had it set up before club and just played the other games in the area surrounding it. we just played it as a regular game of twister with the catch being how slippery it was.

after all the kids had either fallen or been pushed over by their leaders (mainly me...i'm kind of mean like that) we played a game of tug-o-war.

clean up was relatively simple, we just sent kids home in garbage bags and rolled up all the tarps. we played this inside because in germany its cold outside but if you play outside you could just hose down kids and the area played in.
